I've never done a top ten list before, and this is a suprisingly uneventful year to begin, but what the hell. 10. Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood 9. Oh No! Oh My! - Oh No! Oh My! 8. Cat Power - The Greatest 7. Ratatat - Wildcat 6. John Legend - Once Again 5. Beirut - Gulag Orkestar 4. Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out of this Country 3. Grizzly Bear - Yellow House 2. TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain 1. Joanna Newsom - Ys The Life Pursuit probably would have been on this list if I had ever got around to downloading it. I feel like I'm publishing an incomplete list without it, so I'll probably download it and give it a listen tonight. The list will almost certainly change tonight. I'll also add my favorite track or two from each album. So stay tuned! N.B.: I can't in good conscience give Justin Timberlake's Futuresex/Lovesounds a spot on my list, but I will grant "My Love" the number 1 spot for single of the year. That beat is flawless.

"Ys" is, perhaps, the greatest album of this century. I could go on and on about it!

yeah no offense...but i think this is a pretty weak list, though mine was weak too (as was the whole year for music, basically) but hey, that's life i guess...by the way, i own the following from your list - neko case, cat power, tv on the radio - and i enjoy neko the most of the three, but all are pretty good albums i guess...here's my personal top ten (in no particular ranked order, just alphabetical)...

belle and sebastian - the life pursuit
the black angels - passover
neko case - fox confessor brings the flood
the hold steady - boys and girls in america
junior boys - so this is goodbye
the knife - silent shout
mission of burma - the obliterati
sonic youth - rather ripped
the thermals - the body, the blood, the machine
yo la tengo - i am not afraid of you and i will beat your ass

...and here's a couple bonus 2006 releases that didn't make the list for technical reasons - basically, both are compilations of older material, but would make my top 10 to 12 list otherwise...
